Thank you! What a Success!

On Friday, October 18th, a crowd of approximately 160 people attended the Manitoba to Ecuador: In Support of Education dinner. With the help of Pearl and Kurt Barz, Sherril and Wes Reimer, Audrey and Bernie Brandt and Mel Letkeman, a dinner of Manitoba pickerel was served over a bed of veggie rice, alongside carrots and coleslaw. After the meal, the highlight of the evening began.

There were 26 fancy (ok, some were not quite as fancy as some of the others) desserts available for auction. Twelve desserts were auctioned to the highest, or sometimes quickest, bidder, and then the remaining 14 were sold for the same price as the last auctioned item. There were cheesecakes, trifles, carrot cake, wine poached pear cakes, banana cake, pumpkin cake, pavlova, home made ice cream … a very long list of delectable items. Over $2500 was raised by the dessert auction alone! And from all the dessert sharing going on, it appeared that many people felt they had really made delicious purchases.

The audience was also very generous with their donations. Enough money was raised to see one civil engineer through to his graduation in March, 2020. Two young men will be able to come to Canada for six months to study English. Two nurses in year three of their five year nursing program will receive support to complete the final two years. The generosity is going to be life changing and creating!

Thank you so much for your part in making this evening a success.
